Hobbies

Let me speak in the topic лHobbies╗. Hobby is a favorite pastime of a person. Hobbies differ like tastes. Different people like doing different things. So different people have different hobbies. IТve read that there are 1019 personal interests and ways to spend oneТs free time. You are lucky if you have chosen a hobby according to your character and taste, because you have made your life more interesting and varied.
Numerous hobbies can be subdivided into four large classes, they are: doing things, making things, collecting things and learning things.
It cannot be denied that the most popular of all hobbies is doing things. It includes a wide variety of activities, everything from gardening to traveling and from chess to volleyball.
Gardening is one of the oldest of manТs hobbies, especially in some countries, for example Great Britain. ItТs a well-known fact that the English are very fond of gardening and growing flowers.
Playing computer games is a relatively new hobby, but it is becoming more and more popular. Both grown-ups and children are fond of it. I think that it is very exciting hobby. Certainly, it is interesting who will be the winner. Some people are fond of virtual reality; they like to go to the Internet.
Many people go in for sports. It is their hobby. Sport is as old as the humanity itself. Sport helps us to become strong and stay in good shape, it makes us more organized and disciplined in our daily activities. It makes for a healthy mind in a healthy body. People play football, volleyball, hockey, go jogging, swimming, skiing, skating, train in clubs and different sections.
Millions of people all over the world spend their holidays and spare time traveling. They travel to see other countries, modern cities and the ruins of ancient towns, they travel to enjoy picturesque places, or just for a change of scene. It is always interesting to discover new things, different ways of life, to meet different people, try different food, listen to different musical rhythms.
Some people are fond of shopping. Of course it is a part of our daily life. Some people hate it and find it boring. Others consider it very exciting and believe it is a kind of entertainment.
Some prefer cinema or theatre, others like watching TV.
Making things includes drawing, painting, making sculpture, designing costumes, knitting, handicrafts, writing books, music or playing different musical instruments. Two of the most famous hobby painters were President Eisenhower and Sir Winston Churchill; also the formed president of the USA plays the saxophone.
Collecting things is one of the most popular kind of hobbies. Almost everyone collect something at some period of his life, for example stamps, coins, matchboxes, cigarette lighters, books, records, postcards, toys, figures of animals, watches and so on and so forth. My friend is collecting figures of little elephants and he is proud of his collection. Some collections have no real value. Others become so large and so valuable that they are housed in museums and galleries. Many world-famous collections started in a small way with one or two items.
People with a good deal of money often collect paintings, rare books, some things of ancient civilizations and other art objects. Often such private collections are given to museums, libraries and public galleries so that others might take pleasure in seeing them.
Learning things is one of the kinds of hobbies and one of the aspects of all hobbies. Learning things can includes reading, learning foreign languages and so on. Learning things can also be by reading about the things a person is interested in, so he adds it to what he knows. Learning things can be the most exciting aspects of a hobby.
As for me, IТm fond of reading. An English author once wrote: лSome books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed or digested╗. This quotation tells us how to read books of different kinds. I prefer novels and historical books, some times I like to read detective stories. If the book is very exciting, I лswallow╗ it, and if I read books on an important subject or subject IТm interested in, I read it slowly and carefully. I want лchew╗ and лdigest╗ it. I want to weigh what the author says and consider his ideas and arguments. Some times I found in the Internet some information about new books. I suppose that reading is my hobby. Also IТm fond of learning English language, and I like to go to the Internet, there I have a lot of friends.
Several years ago I went to musical school, but IТm not very fond of playing musical instruments, most of all I like to listen to the music.

In conclusion I want to say, that if you have free time, you surely must have a hobby. Because it is very interesting and absorbing to do something you like.
